I have been involved with microarrays for almost a decade—starting with homemade cDNA arrays for one of our cyanobacterial strains. This was a very fruitful enterprise, but the advent of the Agilent arrays provides speed and flexibility. It was not easy to make the change, in part because of our previous success with the old system, and, in part, because of the ability to do everything ourselves and to train students and postdocs.
